Notes from AIAA Aircraft Design (AD) Technical Commitee Mtg
T. Takahashi (MDO TC Liaison to AD TC)

- Guest speaker: Mark Holly describing ALAFS (advanced lightweight agile
flighter?) program from
a MacAir perspective (this program was a precursor to F18 E/F and
JSF)
- Discussions were made on altering the format of the annual AD-TC meeting
at Aerospace Sciences
to extend from a 3hr mtg to an all day event. Extension of meeting
not viewed favorably.
- Discussion of upcoming conference - AD sessions co-located at ATIO 2006.
This is almost concurrent
in breadth and timing with the SAE General Aviation Conference (both
in Wichita, KS in the fall of 2006)
- Discussions of co-locating future AD sessions outside of Reno with
another group. For starters, the
2008 ATIO (our big conference) will be co-located with the ICAS
(International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences)
meeting. Is this a good opportunity, given a large professional overlap
to invite the MDO group so that MA&O could
also co-loacte? There are typically MDO and Aircraft Design sessions and
papers at the ICAS meetings. The 2008
ICAS meeting is planned for Sept 7-12, 2008 in Anchorage AK.
- The CADWG21 sub-committee gave an update. This is an acronym for
"Conceptual Aircraft Design Working Group,"
there is considerable overlap between MDO methods and interests in
this working group (which focuses on pre-design,
   and preliminary-design tools and proceeses)

-Tim
